Snowboarding in Abetone (Study Abroad Post Week 9)

This past Wednesday, me and a few friends went snowboarding in Abetone, a ski resort town in the Apennine Mountains. We woke up at 5 in the morning to catch a train and then a twisting and turning two-hour bus ride that dropped us off in the town around 8:15. We snowboarded for about two hours (half of that time was spent trying to get down the bunny slope one time) before we officially gave up. It took me diving off my board and landing on my tailbone to avoid falling off a mountain to make me decide I never wanted to go snowboarding ever again. The worst moment in my entire life though was when I wiped out on the bunny slopes and schools of Italian toddlers on skis used me and my fallen friends as obstacles to learn how to steer. It humbled me more than anything else I've ever experienced, but at least my friend Ally and I look really cool in this picture.

  1. Hey, girl! I am so jealous you got to go snowboarding in the Appenine Mountains! It looks absolutely beautiful there! Waking up at 5 sounds a little rough, but I am sure it was totally worth it! I honestly would have been on the bunny slope most of the time, too. I miss you so very much, my sweet friend! I pray for your’s and everyone else’s safety every day! I cannot wait to here of more stories once you make it home safe and sound! Until then, I will continue to read all of your posts! I love you!

  2. Hey Alissa! I miss you so much and I am very jealous of the places that you have had the opportunity to go and experience. It must have been so breathtaking to be able to snowboard down the Apennine Mountains! I'm pretty sure that I would have never gotten down the bunny slope at all. I hope that you are having the time of your life but obviously not as much fun as you would have with me! I can not wait for you to get back! Have a great rest of your trip!
